Music will play a huge role in creating the perfect atmosphere for your wedding.
Having the right music playing at the right time to create your desired ambiance takes a little planning and a lot of experience to make the day go smoothly. The Whitehall String Quartet will help you with every aspect of creating the perfect soundtrack for a perfect day. We will welcome your guests into the venue with beautiful classical masterpieces, setting an elegant mood for the wedding ceremony. We work closely with couples to create a magical musical atmosphere that is as timeless as it is personal. Whether you prefer traditional music for your ceremony or something a bit more unique, we have most requests at our fingertips to help make every wedding special. In addition to lovely English weddings, we've arranged wedding music for many different cultures, such as Chinese, Jewish, Indian and Middle Eastern. Just let us know what you're looking for if you don't see it on our repertoire list we'll most likely be able to find it. And if not, we can write a special arrangement for you!

The wedding ceremony has several parts to think about in terms of your music. Depending on the type of ceremony that you are planning, we choose songs that flow from the time that your guests arrive before the ceremony,
until after the ceremony is complete.
Wedding Ceremony Music
- Pre-ceremony music played while your guests are welcomed to the venue and are taking their seats. Light classical like Mozart, Handel and Vivaldi always work well. 15 minutes of music is usually about right.
- Processional music played to signal the beginning of the wedding ceremony when the bridal party enters. The music can build up to announce your walk down the aisle. Wagner's 'Wedding March' (Here comes the Bride!) is traditional, but still very popular. The Canon in D by Pachelbel is our most requested processional, but some brides will choose something personal to themselves. It could even be the theme from the couple's favourite film.
- Registry Signing music will keep your guests entertained whilst you take care of business and will need to fill up to about fifteen minutes. Leave this to us or let us know if you fancy something special.
- Recessional music played after you've exchanged your wedding vows and you’re walking back down the aisle as newlyweds. This should be a grand fanfare announcing the beginning of your marriage. Traditionally, the Mendelssohn 'Wedding March' from A Midsummer Night's Dream is always a great choice. Handel's 'Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' and 'Spring' from Vivaldi's Four Seasons are also popular, but we've had many special requests for this as well.
- Post-ceremony music played during cocktail hour or the pre-drinks session before the wedding reception. We're sure to plan some well-chosen background music for your guests to enjoy while you slip away to have your pics taken. Let us know if you'd like a particular style of music or if you'd like us to play a mix of classical, jazz, film themes or pops.
Wedding Reception Music
For a beautiful wedding reception, it is common to have music playing from the moment the guests begin entering the venue, right up until guests begin to leave when the reception ends. The music selected can be background music that will be enjoyed whilst the wedding breakfast is served or music that is meant to get your guests out of their seats and dancing or just socialising. You can choose the type of music that you would prefer suited to the following parts of your wedding reception:

- Reception ambience music played as your guests arrive, as they settles into their seats and whilst they enjoy a drink or meal.
- Grand entrance music, a fanfare played as you enter the venue and depends entirely on the type of entrance (funny, silly, dramatic or romantic) that you want to make!
- First dance music to open the dance floor for your first dance as newlyweds. If you also plan to have a live band or DJ, the string quartet could start this off with a romatic first dance before they take over.
